What changes when a Italian driver goes abroad
Italy is a contracting state to both road-traffic conventions — the 1949 Geneva Convention and the 1968 Vienna Convention. That is the widest position to travel from. Where it matters is at the edges: 35 of the countries we cover recognise only the 1949 Geneva form — Japan, United States, Bangladesh among them — and 31 recognise only the 1968 Vienna form, including Albania, Belarus, Paraguay. Coming from Italy you are on the right side of both lists.
And coming the other way. Non-EU/EEA visitors must carry an IDP with their national licence. EU/EEA licences are accepted on their own.
